Ride & Stride
The Trust is dependent on voluntary donations for its non-WREN income. The main annual fund-raising event is the Ride & Stride Day which is a national event and always held on the second Saturday in September when groups of people or individuals from churches all over the county ride, walk or run around as many churches in their area as they choose. STORIES FROM PRIOR YEARS' EVENTS:
* Peter McElhinney from St Martin, Ashton upon Mersey wrote: '....I am delighted we raised £1,520 as I'd set a target of £2,000 to put towards our church tower restoration. In 2010 I intend increasing this to £3,000! '
* The three redoubtable ladies from Bowdon were at it again! Mmes M Murdie, R Humphreys and A Hindle, cycled round all the churches in their Deanery and collected another staggering £1,300! * Alison Tottle raised £180 cycling from her home halfway up 'The Cloud' down to North Rode, Marton, Gawsworth and back to her home church of St Mary, Bosley.
* Georgia Wright of Friars Green Independent Methodist Church in Great Sankey, organised 4 walkers to do a 13 church circuit around Warrington Town Centre and 2 riders (one on a bicycle and the other on a motorbike)who rode 50 miles around all the other local Independent Methodist Circuit churches. They also raised money from a coffee morning on the day.
* Elizabeth Alms from St Lukes, Lower Whitley said that two of her participants even found time to play the organ in some of the churches and added: ' ...even those who regret participation the following day, enjoy the actual occasion...and we are always pleased by the number of visitors who call...because they know we are open.'
* Peter Surridge from St Hildeburgh, Hoylake, who has already raised £1,850 in the past 4 years, added a further £770 this year cycling around the Wirral. Fantastic!
* I duly took up Padgate Methodist Church's kind offer of a Bacon Butty on arrival, which set me up for the rest of the day! Many thanks and to all those of you who kept me going all the way to Wincle! (Yours truly)
* St James, Christleton amassed another £700+, - thanks in no small way to Liz McClure and the redoubtable Edward Elliott!
* How many of you know of the Chadkirk Country Estate? Well now that he's walked the 60-odd acres, David Griffiths of St Alban, Offerton can speak volumes on it! Sounds like an ideal venue for a Friends' visit. He raised £200 for his efforts.
* Bob Browne from St Michaels and All Angels, Runcorn said: ' We had five participants and once again they all seemed to enjoy the day...'
* *..... and of course we mustn't forget the stalwarts from St Martin, Ashton-upon- Mersey, St Mary, Bowdon and All Saints, Daresbury. Another great year and we look forward to St Mary, Nether Alderley coming back in 2010.
Other than the Ride & Stride net proceeds, the Trust is dependent either from donations and legacies or from Friends subscriptions . The Trust, as a registered charity, can claim back the income tax on all donations, subject to them being given under a Declaration of Gift, and on all annual payments that are made to it under the Gift Aid Scheme. The benefit to the Trust is substantial as it is able to reclaim 25p for every £1 it receives.
We currently have some Friends Membership deals on offer, so please get in touch with Vincent Whitehead for further details (see Contacts page and Latest Newsletter in the Downloads section)
